A disc is rotating about a frictionless axle at its center when a piece of clay collides with the edge of the disc. The piece of clay continues traveling in the same direction, but increases the rotation rate of the disc.

How does the collision change the magnitude of the total angular momentum of the clay-disc system?

Answer using a coordinate system where counterclockwise is positive.
